Help Connecting Platforms

Connecting Platforms

Catalyst pulls live analytics from Instagram and TikTok. You can connect accounts directly (if you manage them) or send the client a self-service link to do it themselves.

Method 1 — Connect directly (you have account access)

Use this when you manage the client's social accounts or have login access to them.

Instagram

  1. Click "Connect Instagram" on the client card

This redirects you to Facebook's OAuth screen.

  2. Log in with the Facebook account that manages the Instagram

The Instagram account must be a Professional account (Business or Creator) linked to a Facebook Page. Personal accounts are not supported by the Instagram API.

  3. Grant the requested permissions

Catalyst needs read access to Instagram insights and content. No posting or editing permissions are requested.

  4. You're redirected back to the dashboard

A green success banner confirms the connection. The Instagram badge on the client card updates to show the account handle.

⚠️

Instagram requirement: The account must be a Professional (Business or Creator) account connected to a Facebook Page. If the connection fails, verify this in the Instagram app under Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account.

TikTok

  1. Click "Connect TikTok" on the client card

This redirects you to TikTok's OAuth screen.

  2. Log in to the TikTok account

Use the account credentials for the client's TikTok profile.

  3. Approve the permissions

Catalyst requests read-only access to account analytics. No content creation or editing access is needed.

  4. You're redirected back to the dashboard

The TikTok badge updates to show the connected account handle.

Method 2 — Client Connect Link (client does it themselves)

Use this when you don't have the client's social account credentials — send them a link and they connect their own accounts directly from their phone or desktop. No Catalyst account needed.

  1. Click "Get Connect Link" on the client card

A modal appears with a unique, time-limited link.

  2. Copy the link and send it to your client

You can send it via email, WhatsApp, Slack — anywhere. The link is valid for 30 days and works on any device.

  3. The client opens the link and connects their accounts

They'll see a branded page with buttons to connect Instagram and/or TikTok. Each button initiates the same OAuth flow as above — they just need to log in to their social account.

  4. Connection appears on your dashboard automatically

Refresh the dashboard and you'll see the updated badges on the client card.

Tip: The connect link is the cleanest way to get clients connected — it's a great first step to include in your client onboarding email.

Disconnecting a platform

Click Disconnect IG or Disconnect TikTok on the client card. This removes the stored access token from Catalyst — it does not revoke any permissions from the social platform's side. You'll need to reconnect if you want to pull analytics again.
